Meet our People of Port Heiden
The Native Village of Port Heiden is a small but resilient community of about 100 people located 424 miles southwest of Anchorage, Alaska. Led by a Native Council with John Christensen Jr. as President, this tight-knit group is committed to preserving their traditions while embracing new opportunities. The village’s motto, “Using our Traditions to Create New Opportunities,” reflects their dedication to maintaining their cultural heritage while adapting to modern challenges. Despite its small size, Port Heiden demonstrates remarkable vitality, with its people continuing to grow, live, and thrive as they have for thousands of years.
